This changed how I handle pressure

I’ve been thinking a lot about patience.

The inner tension of wanting something immediately, while knowing deep down that good things take time.

And most likely, the things we want are already on their way.

Recently, I had a 1:1 advisory call with a CEO.

He introduced me to a stance I haven’t stopped thinking about:

Micro impatience. Macro patience.

His view was that being impatient in the short term isn’t a flaw.

It’s a sign of standards.

It means you’re close to the work. Close to the pulse. Aware of what needs to improve.

Some of the most successful people I know are deeply micro-impatient.

They tweak. Refine. Adjust. Obsess over the 1% details.

They care about the email subject line, the transition in the presentation, and the framing of one sentence.

Over time, those 1% improvements compound into something exceptional.

But there’s a second half to this:

Macro patience.

Macro patience is zooming out.

It’s taking the higher vantage point and remembering that things don’t unfold overnight.

It’s understanding that meaningful growth - in all areas of life - compounds slowly and invisibly before it becomes obvious.

Micro impatience without macro patience = burnout

Macro patience without micro impatience = mediocrity

Both are required.

The amateur panics in the micro and quits in the macro. The professional refines in the micro and believes in the macro.

If you’re feeling that tension right now, it might not be misalignment.

It might just be micro impatience doing its job.

Anybody can make content and it's never been easier. But nobody actually wants to "create content". You want the lifestyle and the opportunities it can provide for you. You don't want 100,000 followers. You want how you perceive 100,000 followers will feel. But unfortunately, that's not something 99% of people will experience. When clients hire us as an agency, it’s usually because they know the truth: They could easily sink hundreds of hours into content and marketing that might not work....

Right now I'm sat at my local Starbucks tapping away at my keyboard. Out of nowhere, a young guy pulls up directly opposite me and introduces himself. "Hey, I'm Devon. Do you day-trade?" Instantly hesitant, I put an earphone in and say politely: "Not currently no, but yes I do stuff online." He was so close to me he was almost drinking my matcha. "OK. It's just I'm 17 in college right now and I'm trying to invest in myself and my future." Instantly I'm smiling - it's hard to ignore that...
